Hargreaves Awarded Honorary Doctorate

Professor Andy Hargreaves, The Thomas More Brennan Chair at the Lynch School of Education, has been awarded an honorary doctorate by the faculty at Uppsala University in Sweden. This honor is for scholars from outside of Sweden whose work has had a significant impact on Swedish scholarship or Swedish life. Hargreaves’ research focuses on school reform, teacher conditions, educational change, and educational leadership. He has published more than 25 books, several of which have been translated into Swedish and are used in principal training, including Teaching in the Knowledge Society.

Hargreaves will be presented with the honor at an awards ceremony at Uppsala in January 2010. Other recent recipients of honorary doctorates at Uppsala include Kofi Annan, Jane Goodall, David Attenborough, Claude Levi-Strauss, Noam Chomsky, and Zygmunt Bauman.
