Joseph O'Keefe, S.J., Ed.D., was named Dean of the Lynch School in March 2005, after serving a year and a half as interim dean and two years as associate dean.
O'Keefe has been at the Lynch School since joining the faculty as an assistant professor in 1991. He has served as coordinator of the Educational Administration program and of the Catholic School Leadership Program at the School.
He has also served for several years as coordinator of the Spiritual Growth Leadership Seminar and SPICE (Selected Programs for Improving Catholic Education), both jointly sponsored by the University and National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA). He is director of the research center at NCEA.
In 2004, he received the F. Sadlier Dinger Award for outstanding contributions to Catholic education.
O'Keefe received his doctorate in education from Harvard University, concentrating on Administration, Planning, and Social Policy. A native of Salem, Mass., he is a graduate of Holy Cross College and received a master's degree in French literature from Fordham University as well as a master's degree from Harvard in Educational Administration.
He also received an M.Div. and S.T.L. from the Weston School of Theology, Cambridge, Mass. He has been a member of the Society of Jesus since 1976.
Fr. O'Keefe was visiting associate professor and holder of the Jesuit Chair in Education at Georgetown University, 1999-2000.
He is a member of the boards of trustees of College of the Holy Cross, LeMoyne College (N.Y.), and St. John's Preparatory School (Danvers).
