Maureen Kenny, Ph.D.

Maureen E. Kenny, Ph.D., was named Associate Dean of the Lynch School in July 2007.

As Associate Dean, she works with the Dean to serve faculty members, students (especially on the doctoral level), and the greater community. She will also continue to conduct research during her time in office.

Dean Kenny has been at the Lynch School since 1988. She served as Director of Training of the American Psychological Association (APA)-accredited Ph.D. program in Counseling Psychology from 1993 –1997 and was chair of the Department of Counseling, Developmental, and Educational Psychology from 1997-2000. She was promoted from assistant to associate professor in 1993 and to full professor in 2005.

Dean Kenny received her doctorate in 1985 from the APA-approved combined program in Counseling/School Psychology at the University of Pennsylvania, during which time she received the Morris Vitales Award for excellence in teaching, research and professional service and the William E. Arnold Award for promise of future achievement in scholarship and leadership. She is a 1971 graduate of Brown University and received a M.Ed. in Counseling Psychology and Rehabilitation from Teachers College, Columbia University in 1975.

Dean Kenny is a Fellow of Division 17, the Society of Counseling Psychology of the American Psychological Association. She was Chair of the Division 17 Section of Prevention from 2004-06 and past-chair from 2007-2009. Her research interests focus on the role of career, health, realtional and social competence interventions in promoting positive academic, social, and emotional development among urban youth.
