Center for Human Rights and International Justice (
CHRIJ)
The Center for Human Rights and International Justice at Boston College addresses the increasingly interdisciplinary needs of human rights work. Through multidisciplinary training programs and applied research and the interaction of scholars with practitioners, the Center aims to nurture a new generation of scholars and practitioners in the United States and abroad who draw upon the strengths of many disciplines, and the wisdom of rigorous ethical training in the attainment of human rights and international justice. The Center is built upon the University's deep religious and ethical tradition of service to others and its broad scholarly reach through its graduate programs in Arts & Sciences and its professional programs in Law, Business, Education, Social Work, and Nursing.

Center for the Study of Testing, Evaluation, and Educational Policy
(
CSTEEP)
University-sponsored research center internationally recognized for its
work in the policy uses of tests.
This research center is a rich resource for all programs in education. In the past decade, CSTEEP has been involved in assessment issues that address the fairness of testing in culturally and economically diverse populations.
CSTEEP includes the Technology and Assessment Study Collaborative (
inTASC)
which works collaboratively with schools, educational institutions, and businesses on research and development related to technology and assessment.
TIMSS and PIRLS International Study Center (
Conducts comparative studies in educational achievement throughout the world.
Principally, ISC serves as the center for two main efforts—Trends in Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) and Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS)—under the auspices of the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement.
TIMSS is designed to help countries all over the world improve student learning in mathematics and science. It collects educational achievement data at the fourth and eighth grades to provide information about trends in performance over time tog ether with extensive background information to address concerns about the quantity, quality, and content of instruction.
In December 2004, TIMSS reported its latest assessment of math and science achievement in approximately 50 countries.
Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) is a series of international studies designed to measure trends in reading literacy for 4th grade students.
PIRLS is focused on the reading literacy achievement of young children and researching the experiences they have at home and school in learning to read. It will provide valuable comparative information about the levels of reading literacy of young children that can be used to improve learning and instruction.
Center for International Higher Education (
A research and service agency providing information, publications, and a sense of community to colleges and universities worldwide.
The main focus of CIHE is on academic institutions in the Jesuit tradition, but other universities receive its publications and are part of an informal network. There is a special concern with the needs of academic institutions in the developing countries of the Third World.
Visiting scholars from Jesuit and other universities worldwide occasionally are in residence at CIHE. CIHE works closely with the Higher Education program of the Lynch School and brings to the Lynch School an international consciousness and focus.
Institute for the Study and Promotion of Race and Culture (
Founded in 2000 to promote the assets and address the societal conflicts associated with race or culture in theory and research, mental health practice, education, business, and society at large.
Each year, through its
Diversity
Challenge conference, the Institute
addresses a racial or cultural issue that could benefit from a pragmatic
scholarly focus.
Center for Child, Family, and Community Partnerships (
An "outreach scholarship" program that fosters collaboration among Boston College faculty, students, and community leaders in health care, social service, economic development, and education.
The goal of CCFCP participants is to create stronger, healthier, and more economically sound communities. The Center offers technical assistance, program evaluation, needs assessment, training, and consultation to organizations in communities.
