Full-time students at Boston College (students registered for 9 credit
hours or more) or students enrolled at least 75% of full-time, are required
by state law to be covered under the Boston College plan, unless the student
submits the required Waiver Information. You may also file the waiver
electronically through AGORA once you have a PIN. The Office of University Student Services can answer
any of your questions regarding health insurance. You can download the
waiver as well as review the Boston College health insurance plan on the Student Services website.
If you are registered at any time for fewer than 9 credits, you must choose
to enroll in the health insurance plan if you need health insurance. Students
enrolled full-time must submit proof of immunization prior to the start
of classes in the fall.
In addition to the previously required immunizations, Massachusetts law requires all new full- and part-time graduate students in degree-granting programs to provide documentation of receipt of 1 dose of meningococcal vaccine within the past 5 years or sign a waiver form, exempting you from the immunization.. All immunization forms must be received at least two weeks prior to the start of classes. The waiver form can be found on the University Health Services website. You can select either full-time or part-time graduate health and immunization forms. The waiver form is at the very end of the memo from Dr. Thomas Nari. Please note that you will be blocked from registration if the either the documentation for or a signed waiver form for the meningococcal vaccine is not received prior to your registration. We recommend you submit the waiver form and then get the vaccine if you wish.
Coverage for Students Receiving Funding Through an Academic Source
Boston College will provide individual Student Health Insurance Plan coverage for eligible graduate students receiving funding through an academic source (such as stipends, fellowships and assistantships) for the 2009-2010 academic year. Beginning in fall 2009, eligible students will receive an insurance credit (percent of medical insurance cost that will be covered) based on the amount of the stipend received for each term.
The amounts for the 2009-2010 academic year are as follows:
| Stipend Amount Per Term | Amount of Credit |
| $1,000 - $3,499 | 25% of medical insurance charge for the term |
| $3,500 - $5,499 | 50% of medical insurance charge for the term |
| $5,500 - $7,499 | 75% of medical insurance charge for the term |
| $7,500 and above | 100% of medical insurance charge for the term |
For the fall 2009 term, stipends received between June 1 and December 31 will be combined to determine stipend amount.
For the spring 2010 term, only the stipends received for the period January 1 through May 31 will be considered.
The cost of health insurance is $766 for coverage from August 7, 2009 through January 10, 2010, and $975 for coverage from January 11, 2010 through August 6, 2010.
If you are eligible to receive health insurance, and opt-in, do not pay the medical insurance portion of your bill until your account is credited appropriately for the charge by mid-October 2009.
