Practicum Information

lynch school of education

You are about to enter an exciting three-way partnership among supervisor, student, and cooperating teacher. This triad, supported by the Boston College community, shares a noble mission—the professional growth and development of teachers whose training is rooted in knowledge, guided by reflective practice, and nurtured by effective supervision.

Collectively we strive to move the pre-service teacher along a developmental continuum toward a thoughtful, self-directed professional who can rise to the many challenges posed by today's schools.

Toward that end, we pledge to each of you our full support and energy in helping you to explore and enhance the skills necessary for accepting the challenges of mentoring, supervising, and learning the standards of a vital and essential profession.

It is our hope that your shared experiences will provide you with many and varied opportunities for your own personal and professional growth, and that your work with the Practicum Office program will be an exciting and enjoyable experience.

Finally, thank you for accepting this challenge. Remember, to teach is to touch a life forever.

This is the official policy and procedure guide for the professional practicum experiences program for both graduate and undergraduate student teachers in all fields of licensure.

It is not a substitute for the course syllabus and rubric required for each student teacher to complete licensure standards.

Each student in a practicum program is expected to know this information and follow the requirements in the practicum or clinical course syllabus.

Students who have special circumstances or require specific advisement may make appointments with the Director or Assistant Director of Practicum Experiences and Teacher Induction.
