Notification and Scheduling of Interviews
Interviews
Please check Symplicity daily to see if you were selected for an interview.
After the interview sign up deadline date, the schedules will close and you will forfeit your interview time to an alternate candidate. Once you have scheduled a time, you may change your scheduled interview time up until the closing date of the Session. If you need to change an interview time, you MUST come to Career Services or call the Office and a staff member can assist you. Try to schedule interview times carefully because these times are difficult to change.
Alternate interviews
Employers often select a list of alternates in case of interview cancellations. If you are an alternate, please check Symplicity daily to see if you have come off the alternate list. Your turnaround time to schedule an interview will be very short. Please check the Important Dates Deadlines on Symplicity.
Additional Interview Opportunities
After the deadline date has passed for students to sign up for an interview, AND after we have exhausted the employer's list of alternate candidates, we will then attempt to fill any and all remaining interview slots. The Office will send out a general e-mail to ALL students informing them of which employers have openings, which class year the employer has requested and the specific interview times available. Any student may stop by the Career Services Office and complete an index card if they can interview at the specific time. We will run these lotteries as needed throughout the fall. These "last minute" opportunities will be available as openings arise and cannot be determined ahead of time. Please check your e-mail or stop by the Career Services Office for any updates.
Interview Policies and Procedures
In order for this process to work for both students and employers, students must adhere to our Campus Recruiting Agreement. Please read the policies and sign and return a copy to the Career Services office if you haven't already done so. This form is required to participate in on-campus and off-campus interviewing. The policies are as follows:
Accuracy of Information
All information you submit to Career Services or directly to an employer must be scrupulously accurate. In addition to concerns of ethics and integrity, many employers verify information submitted by candidates for employment. Discrepancies in information have resulted in the withdrawal of job offers.Number of on-campus interviews
In fairness to your fellow students, do not submit your resume to employers in which you have no interest. Only bid for an employer if you are prepared to accept an interview with that employer. You may bid for as many on-campus interviews during fall recruitment as you wish, but we ask that students accept no more than 25 on-campus interviews. This guideline is intended to increase the opportunities for all students as well as to help you focus your own search. This limit does not apply to off-campus interview programs or the semi-annual Government and Public Interest Programs. If, however, you are approaching the 25 interview limit without any job offers, please meet with a Career Services Counselor.
Interview Decline
You will be given a deadline by which you must schedule or decine an interview. If you wish to decline an interview, you should do so immediately online through Symplicity, so that the interview may not be offered to another student. If you do not accept or decline your interview by the given deadline, you will forfeit that interview and your tardiness will be noted.No-Shows and Cancellation
Once you have scheduled an interview, you cannot cancel! Failure to honor a scheduled interview is considered by all parties to be a serious breach of courtesy and ethics. This action reflects poorly on you, both now and in the future, should you consider interviewing with the organization again in 10 months or 10 years. It also negatively impacts the BC Law community; no-shows and cancellations deprive other students of interviewing opportunities, waste employers' time and may impact employers' willingness to interview future BC Law students.Consequently, two no-shows or cancellations of interviews will result in your exclusion from further participation in the Law School Recruitment Programs. An exception for cancellation of interviews may be made for third year students who receive a permanent job offer after they have scheduled an interview.
Offer Policy
Do not accept a job offer until you have completed all scheduled initial interviews. Acceptances, once made, cannot be revoked. Once you accept an offer, you have agreed to work for that specific employer and you are no longer free to solicit other offers. In the event you do continue to interview after you have accepted an offer, we may have to notify both the employer who extended the offer and the employers with whom you are interviewing that you are not in compliance with this policy. Your breach of this policy will result in your exclusion from further participation in Law School Recruitment Programs.
