Newton, MA--Speaking before one of the largest crowds ever assembled at Boston College Law School, retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor discussed her remarkable career of service and urged students to become more involved with the democratic process. O'Connor joined deans of distinguished law schools at the academic symposium 'Law Schools and the Education of Democratic Citizens', sponsored by Boston College Law School and the BC 150th Celebration committee on April 2, 2013.

The overflow crowd filled the School's Ropes and Gray Conference Center and several other classrooms where streaming video played on large screens. The event was also broadcast on Boston College's cable channel 51.

In addition to Justice O'Connor, the event featured Timothy Macklem, Head of School of Law, Professor of Jurisprudence at King's College London, Martha Minow, Dean and Jeremiah Smith, Jr. Professor, Harvard Law School, and BC Law Dean Vincent Rougeau. BC Law Professor Sharon Beckman, a former law clerk for Justice O'Connor, moderated the discussion.

The event was part of Boston College's Sesquicentennial Celebration.
