Newton, MA—The Boston College Law School LRR&W Program will be hosting the upcoming Biannual Conference of the New England Consortium on Legal Writing on December 10, 2010.
Entitled, “What Legal Employers Want…and Really Need,” the Consortium will offer representatives of the bench, Attorney General’s office, law firms, in-house counsel and law school faculty the opportunity to come together to share insights into what will make law graduates “practice-ready.” There will also be a research and technology presentation sponsored by LexisNexis and Westlaw.
The extent to which law students should instructed to be “practice-ready” has become an increasingly important question due to growing challenges of the troubled economy and the limited access to resources employers have to train recent graduates. Whether or not it is realistic to think law students can be “practice-ready” will also be discussed, given what is known about how professional knowledge is acquired. The Conference will give panels on what employers need and expect and the initiatives that law schools can take in order to meet these demands.
