EMERGENCY & AFTER HOUR ASSISTANCE
ATR, the Law School’s Technology Department, also supports all faculty and staff at BC Law. Consequently, we can only respond to emergency situations (potential loss of data) outside of the hours set forth above. ATR staff work Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Students requiring assistance during evening or weekend hours should call 617-552-HELP or seek help at the Campus Technology Resource Center (CTRC) located in the O’Neill Library building on the Chestnut Hill Campus.
STUDENT SUPPORT POLICIES
Boston College Law Library's Administrative and Technology Resources (ATR) department provides limited laptop computer support services to students at Boston College Law School. These support services include assistance with:
- activation on the BC Network
- installation and troubleshooting of ExamSoft's SofTest software.
- printing at the law library
- virus prevention, protection and removal
- use of academic related software applications
- basic troubleshooting of problems with Windows Operating Systems. More complex issues that require the reinstallation of an operating system, application or reformatting of a hard drive may be done at ATR's discretion and only if the users' supply their own OS and application software media.
Support does NOT:
- extend to laptop computers running system and application software in a foreign language
- extend to troubleshooting of operating system or application issues on laptops running a Macintosh Operating System. The SLSC is staffed to help Macintosh users
- include hardware repair service (hardware repair is available on main campus.)
Students are expected to protect their laptops by performing necessary Windows updates and by keeping virus protection up-to-date. Laptops with viruses are subject to removal from the BC Network.
ATR highly recommends that students running older or home versions of a Windows OS (95, 98, ME, XP Home) upgrade to XP Professional, which is available to students for $15.00 at the Law School Bookstore.
Students are, at all times, responsible for their own data.
ATR offers assistance to students during Help Center hours. Help Center hours are posted at the start of each semester. Every effort will be made to resolve user issues expediently, however, ATR reserves the right to triage requests for service and determine its own workflow.
Extended support hours are offered at the start of each academic year for activation/network connection issues.
ATR reserves the option to restrict assistance with recurring user-generated problems.
SUPPORT FOR NEW FACULTY/EMPLOYEES and VISITING FACULTY
To obtain access to the BC network, new employees must fill out and submit a Personal Data Form, W-4 and M-4 tax forms, and an I-9 form prior to or at the start of employment. These forms are available online (Adobe Acrobat Reader required) and from the Human Resources Service Center (HRSC) More Hall 370, 617-552-4772. If you have questions about these forms, please contact Human Resources or the Dean's Office at the Law School.
You will NOT be issued your username or temporary password, which are necessary for network access, until the forms identified above are completed.
Access is tied to these two items. Explanation of Access and Passwords.
After you receive your username and password, please contact ATR to schedule an orientation to BCLaw Electronic Services
