E-Mail
Q: Which e-mail clients are available in the computing facilities and how do I use them?

A: Please see: Using e-mail at BC Law

File Management
Q: Yesterday, I saved a file on the hard drive.  Today it is gone.

A: Users of the computing facilities must save to disk or CD. It is not possible to save data permanently to any of the hard disks. Anything saved to the Temporar y User Storage folder is deleted daily.

Printing
Q: Is there a charge for printing?

A: The printing policy at BC Law is under review. At present, Boston College Law Library provides laser printing at no charge to currently enrolled Boston College Law Students.

However, this policy allows each user only one copy of each document. Multiple copies sent to the printer slow down the queue cause delays to users.

Printing of documents downloaded from LEXIS or WESTLAW is restricted to documents not available in the law library's print collections. Printing is expensive and time consuming and should not be a substitute for photocopying.

Laser Printer output will be on white 8 1/2 x 11 paper.

Printing to special papers, labels, and envelopes is allowed as a manual feed option only. Please ask a monitor for assistance. Printing on transparency film is not allowed.

Users are encouraged to use Double Sided Printing whenever possible.

In an effort to conserve paper, the new Xerox laser printers (Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato, 155 & 153) offer double-sided printing. When printing out large documents, please be sure to change the print properties to double-sided printing.Setting the print properties to double-sided printing is very simple. From your application (Word, Adobe, Explorer, etc.), choose File>Print. The Print window will open, choose Properties. Once in the Properties window, choose Long Side under the Duplex Printing menu. Click OK and continue with your printing. Instructions in PDF with screen shots.
