GROUP E-MAIL ADDRESSES
A group e-mail address serves as a permanent point of contact for use in web pages and publications. Group e-mail accounts for student organizations are not "stand alone accounts". Mail sent to the address is automatically forwarded to up to five personal BC e-mail accounts, specified by the organization.

How do I request a group e-mail address?
Complete the request form.Dean Wylie should sign the form where it asks for ODSD approval.

What should we do if we have more than five people that need access to the mail account?
BC Information Technology suggests that you create a free email account (such as a Yahoo account) and then forward your BC group email to that account. Then, anyone in your group can access and answer email sent to the group email account.

We already have an address. How do I update the mail recipients?
To make changes to an existing group email account, such as updating ownership or changing the forwarding information, the group email account owner must send an email to group.email.questions@bc.edu with the address of the group email account (for example: atrinbox@bc.edu) and the updates that need to be made.
IMPORTANT - We suggest that you think about these changes in May rather than September when 3L members are still available. If you wait until September, be advised that BC email accounts remain active for graduating law students until April of the year following graduation.

SENDING EMAIL TO MEMBERS OF YOUR ORGANIZATION (Listservs and Campus Groups)

Policies and Procedures
Student Organizations are encouraged to use a Listserv or set up a Campus Group to facilitate communication between members of the group. Please note: We do NOT encourage use of Campus Groups to publicize events or activities. Please send information to counselor@bc.edu for inclusion in the student e-newsletter The Counselor. The Dean for Students Office will assist you with publicizing larger events.

Listservs
A Listserv is an email-based discussion group that allows members to post email messages to a large number of people at the same time. When you post (send) an email to a Listserv, your email is sent to all of the other people on that Listserv. A Listserv can be restricted, which means that only people approved by the list owner can join the list. A Listserv can also be monitored, which means that all posts to the list must be approved by the list owner before being posted to the entire list. Unlike, Campus Groups, list members can use BC or non-BC addresses. Additional Information. Please note: Only BC Faculty and staff can request a list. Contact the Dean for Students Office if you would like to have a list created for your organization.

Campus Groups
Campus Groups works in a way that is similar to a Listserv. You can use a group's name to send an email to all the members of the group rather than having to specify each email address. However, it does not allow you to have a monitored and/or a restricted mailing list and you are restricted to BC email addresses. To learn more about Campus Groups log into Agora (agora.bc.edu), select Campus Groups from your menu and click on Learn and Support.

GROUP MYFILES SPACE
Student organizations can request a group folder on MYFiles@bc.edu. MyFiles is a file storage and sharing system available to the BC community. It allows members of the group to securely store and share files on the Web. Request space. Enter "Dean Norah Wylie" where it asks for your ODSD advisor.

Nate Kenyon, Director of Marketing and Communications, posts basic descriptive and contact information on the law school website. If any information needs to be updated, contact Nate. If you create a new website for your student organization, please notify Nate so he can set a link to your site.

Student organizations are encouraged to maintain independent web sites on www.bc.edu, highlighting their group's activities.

For site URL, enter the URL. If this is a new site and you do not yet have a URL, enter "new site".

Request an Alias to a New or Existing Site:
You can also request that an alias be created for your organization's homepage, to make it easier for users to remember your URL. For example: www.bc.edu/apalsa, instead of www.bc_org/avp/law/st_org/apalsa. Alias Request Form.

Information advocating a political or partisan position is permitted, but should remain at the level appropriate to academic discourse; it must be respectful of alternative views and should not become electronic "electioneering."
