Cheney Named to Top Ten Financial Professionals List
11/10/2006—Boston College Law School is pleased to announce that Heather
B. Cheney, class of 1999, was named one of the Top Ten Financial Professionals
in New England by Women’s Business/ The Boston Herald. Heather is a Vice
President in the Estate & Financial Planning department of U. S. Trust Company
in Boston.
“Heather’s forte is complex estate planning, which helps her clients
keep their assets and give effect to their dreams for their family’s financial
security,” said Philip H. Graeter, an Associate at Todd & Weld. “She
is not just a technician, but also a listener and problem solver. She is fast
becoming a leader in her field and is a regular author and presenter at continuing
legal education seminars and estate planning workshops.”
Cheney develops integrated financial, estate, and investment planning strategies
for U.S. Trust’s high net worth clients, and advises them on a wide range
of income, estate, gift, and generation skipping transfer tax issues. Cheney
is on the faculty of Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education and has taught
seminars at the Boston Bar Association and various conferences throughout New
England. Prior to joining U.S. Trust in 2002, Cheney practiced law at Holland
& Knight LLP and at Sherburne, Powers & Needham, P.C. specializing in
complex estate and tax planning. She served as Co-Chair of the Boston Bar Association’s
Estate Planning Fundamentals Committee from 2003 through 2005, and is a member
of the Boston Estate Planning Council.
Before attending law school Cheney served as the Finance Director for a U.S.
congressional campaign and as the Government Affairs Director for a non-profit
organization. She graduated from Middlebury College, cum laude, with a B.A.
in political science. She received her J.D. from Boston College Law School and
has completed coursework towards a master’s degree in tax (LL.M.) at Boston
University.
