10/09/03--The Michael V. Morisi Scholarship Fund recently announced that the
Fund has selected two winners of the Michael V. Morisi Memorial Scholarship
for the year 2003.
Melissa Kerchner, a third year student at Boston College Law School and Michelle
Kozlov, a second year student at Boston College Law School, each won $15,000
lump sum awards.
Attorney Andrew C. Oatway formed the Michael V. Morisi Scholarship Fund in memory
of his law firm partner Michael V. Morisi. Mr. Morisi died of pancreatic cancer
in 2000 at the age of 42, after living with the disease for almost a decade.
Mr. Morisi was a resident of Milton, a graduate of Boston College, and the founder
of the Quincy law firm Morisi & Oatway, P.C.
Among other distinguished legal achievements, in 1998, Mr. Morisi represented
the plaintiffs in Valenti v. Lubin & Meyer, P.C., a multi-million dollar
legal malpractice jury verdict in the U.S. District Court in Boston. The verdict,
which was among the top five of the year in Massachusetts, is reported to be
the highest legal malpractice verdict in Massachusetts history.
The fund has raised over $55,000 in the last two years through a charity golf
tournament, dinner, and silent auction. The third annual golf tournament, dinner,
and silent auction took place on October 3, 2003 and it was sold out for the
third year in a row.
