European Moot Court

celebrating 75 years

Boston College Law School will host the American Regional Round of the European Union Law Moot Court Competition on the weekend of February 9-12, 2006. The Law School will host host The EU competition with the assistance of a group of young lawyers led by team members of last year's BC EU Law Moot Court team. European law students and practitioners will travel to Boston from all over Europe, with teams entered from schools in Ireland, Cologne, Bayreuth, Amsterdan, Helsinki, Florence, Tilburg, Fribourg, and across the river in Cambridge. Twelve teams compete with all but Harvard coming from overseas. Several judges for the competition will also come over from Europe.

There are four regional rounds being held in Boston, Dublin, Slovenia, and France. The Final Round is held in March at the European Court of Justice. BC Law's 2006 team performed well at the Dublin regional recently; click here for the story.

There will be a welcoming reception on Thursday, February 9th, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at the House of the Boston Bar Association, 16 Beacon Street, Boston, which has kindly contributed the event. On Friday, February 10th, the competition will run all day at the Law School. The judges are being invited to attend the faculty lunch that day. The BSA and ILSA will be helping the students to meet and mingle with our students at lunchtime and throughout the day. The day culminates in a reception at Barat House, where the teams advancing to the semifinals will be announced.

On Saturday, February 11th, the final round will be held in the Supreme Judicial Courtroom at the newly renovated, historic John Adams Courthouse. There will also be a networking opportunity and panel discussion on Practice Opportunities in EU Law about 3:30 in the afternoon following the final round, with a reception afterward at the Courthouse.
