Alumni
Vote 'Yes' on Ballot
BC
Law alumni have voted emphatically for change, approving
the proposed restructuring of the alumni association
by a 4 to 1 margin. A full breakdown
of the vote can be seen to the left.
In
a letter to alumni, Brian Falvey, 2007-08 Alumni Association
president and Co-Chair of the Alumni Task Force, called
the vote a "monumental" step and asked for
volunteers to come forward.
"The
most exciting part of the new structure is its open
invitation for alumni who have an interest in contributing
to the discussion—or in taking a leadership
role—to join us," he wrote. "This
is an opportunity to be part of something new and
wonderful."
Proxy
firm DF King certified the final results
of the vote earlier this week, putting a stamp on
the latest development in a journey that began nearly
two years ago with the comprehensive survey of alumni
by consulting firm eAdvancement. That survey
showed that while an overwhelming number of alumni
had positive feelings toward BC Law, the majority
felt disconnected and did not know how to get more
involved in the life of the School.
An Alumni Task Force was created to study the alumni
association structure. The 15-member group met over
the course of the summer and proposed a new structure
that would create specific
Board positions and promote greater and more consistent
interaction with the School's administration and the
overall alumni body. That structure went out for a
vote of the entire Alumni Association in January.
"The goal [now] is to engage the broadest possible
range of alumni," Falvey wrote. "Whether
you have been involved in the past, or whether your
association with BC Law has been limited to the parchment
framed on your office wall, you are still welcome
to contribute to this new organization."
