Commencement 2015

10:00 a.m. — University Commencement (main ceremony)
12:00–2:00 p.m. — School of Social Work Diploma Ceremony

The 139th Commencement of Boston College will be held on Monday, May 18, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. in Alumni Stadium. Commencement Exercises are a two-part ceremony. The University Commencement (main ceremony) will start with a procession at 9:15 a.m. All graduates should be in assembly areas by 8:15 a.m. The academic procession into Alumni Stadium for the University Commencement will begin at 9:15 a.m. Family and guests should be seated by that time. This will be followed by individual School and College Diploma Ceremonies. All should be completed no later than 2:00 p.m.

The School of Social Work Diploma Ceremony is held following the University Commencement at approximately 12:00 p.m. on Burns Lawn (rain or shine). The ceremony will feature a welcome from Dean Alberto Godenzi and greetings from a renowned speaker.   More about Commencement »

Salome Raheim, PhD, ACSW, is Dean and Professor at the University of Connecticut School of Social Work and is the first African American and person of color to hold this position. She served as founding co-director of the university’s Health Disparities Institute from 2010 to 2014. GSSW 2012 Commencement Ceremonies

Mildred "Mit" Joyner, current president of the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), will give the "Greetings" at this year's Boston College Graduate School of Social Work Diploma Ceremony. Founded in 1952, CSWE is the sole accrediting agency for social work education in the U.S.

Ms. Joyner is a full professor and chair emerita of the undergraduate social work department at West Chester University (WCU). In the field of social work, her research interests include gerontology, child abuse, race relations, and lowering disparity factors among groups in the United States and the global community.

The 136th Commencement of Boston College will be held on Monday, May 21, 2012. The University Commencement, which is attended by all graduates, is held in Alumni Stadium (rain or shine) and will begin with the Academic Procession at 9:15 a.m. and end after approximately two hours. The Graduate School of Social Work Diploma Ceremony is held immediately after University Commencement at approximately noon on Burns Lawn (rain or shine).
