AUGUST 17, 2011
Dean Alberto Godenzi will serve as the chair of the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) 2011-2012 President/CEO Search Committee.
The CSWE is a nonprofit national association representing more than 3,000 individual members, as well as graduate and undergraduate programs of professional social work education. This partnership of educational and professional institutions, social welfare agencies, and private citizens is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation as the sole accrediting agency for social work education in this country.
"Higher education in general and social work education in particular are experiencing significant changes," says Dean Godenzi. "While no one exactly knows how the future political, economic, legal, and social landscape will look like, it seems safe to say that we need to constantly rethink the way we train the next generation of social workers. Through its mandate, CSWE has always played a key role in influencing the structure of social work programs and shaping the future workforce. The search for the first President and CEO (formerly Executive Director) will provide a crucial opportunity to find once again a leader who is visionary and loyal to the unique values of social work. It is an honor to work with a search committee composed of such distinguished colleagues."
Members of the search committee include: Freddie L. Avant, Stephen F. Austin State University, Texas; Edward Blair, Council on Social Work Education, Virginia; Priscilla A. Day, University of Minnesota Duluth; Nancy R. Hooyman, University of Washington; Nancy P. Kropf, Georgia State University; Candida Madrigal, San Francisco State University, California; Noreen Mokuau, University of Hawai’i at Manoa; Anna Marie Montijo, Adelphi University, New York; Hannah Nguyen, Doctoral Student and CSWE MFP Fellow, UCLA, California; Debora M. Ortega, University of Denver, Colorado; Joe M. Schriver, University of Arkansas; Andrea M. Stewart, University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff; Peter B. Vaughan, Fordham University, New York; Barbara W. White, University of Texas at Austin; Janlee Wong, Executive Director of NASW California Chapter; Bonnie Lee Yegidis, University of South Florida.
Current CSWE President, Mit Joyner (West Chester University), will work closely with Dean Godenzi, the members of the committee, and the executive search firm Witt/Kieffer with a goal to interview final candidates at the spring governance meeting and CSWE board meeting to be held in March 2012.
