A new study by Jacquelyn James, Elyssa Besen, Christina Matz-Costa, and Marcie Pitt-Catsouphes of GSSW's Sloan Center on Aging & Work has been highlighted nationally in Time.com, SmartMoney.com, and USA Today. The study looks at the well-being of older adults as tied to their active engagement in paid work, caregiving, education, and volunteering.
Recruiters from across New England were on campus to talk to students about the employment opportunities at their agencies. BC GSSW students and alumni were invited to come and speak one-on-one with area agency representatives and pick up materials and handouts describing their programs.
Over 35 agencies from Massachusetts and Rhode Island attended the annual GSSW Recruitment Fair. Many agencies had recently received or expected to receive funding that would result in social work hiring. Over 100 GSSW students and alumni attended the event.
"We just want to say thank you for inviting us to participate in the BC Social Work job fair yesterday. It was by far the best recruitment fair we have participated in, both from an organizational viewpoint as well as results. The students that we talked with were without exception, well prepared to talk with us, having visited our website before hand, and asked excellent questions that indicated that they were thinking long term career not just getting the first job. Boston College should be commended for the preparation of these future Social Workers."
- Margaret and Ami Swanson from Social Work P.R.N. agency
