NAMI Walk May 14 in Brighton, MA

Join the BC School of Social Work Team

The Boston College School of Social Work Alumni Association will be walking to raise money for NAMI on Saturday, May 14th. This 5k starts in Artesani Park at 9am and will raise money and awareness about our country's need for a world-class treatment and recovery system for people living with mental illness. Students, alumni, faculty and staff are all welcome to join the BC Social Work team for a fun morning connecting with other BC social workers and supporting a cause very relevant to our work. Register to walk with our team or email Kate Casey with any questions.

Students, alumni, faculty, and staff are invited to attend a morning conference, "Race + Justice," to explore the intersections of diversity and social work practice and to honor this year's recipients of the Distinguished Alumni Awards. This event brings the entire Boston College School of Social Work community together at the start of the second semester to deepen our respect for the complex diversity of the people and communities we are privileged to serve and to strengthen our practice skills.

This fun annual event gives BC Social Work alumni and students a chance to explore careers and network with each other through informal conversation and a short panel discussion. Appetizers and beverages provided. Drop by for all or part of the evening.

Last year over 40 alumni and 100 students attended.

Salome Raheim, PhD, ACSW, is Dean and Professor at the University of Connecticut School of Social Work and is the first African American and person of color to hold this position. She served as founding co-director of the university’s Health Disparities Institute from 2010 to 2014. Recruiters from across New England will be on campus to talk to students about employment opportunities at their agencies. Boston College School of Social Work students and alumni are invited to meet with area agency representatives and pick up materials and handouts describing their programs.  More about the BC Social Work Recruitment Fair »

This event is open to BC Social Work students and alumni only. IDs are required.

Navigating the Eldercare Maze: Webinar with Andrea Cohen, MSW '84

This presentation provides tips and tools that empower adult children to respond with confidence when elderly parents need their help. Topics of discussion will include home care and housing options, costs and coverage, getting the right help, family dynamics, long distance care-giving, and strategies for helping parents accept assistance.

This webinar will be led by Andrea Cohen, MSW '84, co-founder and CEO of HouseWorks, a company dedicated to transforming the way that care is delivered to seniors at home. Cohen is also an adjunct professor at BC Social Work.  More about Navigating the Eldercare Maze and registration information »
