  1. How do I register?
Directions on how to register online or register by phone can be found at BC Academic Services.
  2. Can I enroll in a course offered through another graduate school/department at Boston College or through another university?
Yes, a student may cross-register for one social work-related elective per semester in another graduate school/department at Boston College e.g., Lynch School of Education, Carroll School of Management, the School of Theology and Ministry, Sociology, Psychology, etc. For more information on cross-registration procedures, see the GSSW Cross-Registration Guide, located in the Blackboard/Vista site of SW Central or contact Regina O'Grady-LeShane, Associate Dean of Academic and Student Services at 617-552-4762 or regina.ogrady-leshane.1@bc.edu. Cross-registration through the consortium with Boston University, Tufts University and Brandeis University is not available during the summer.
  3. How many credits do I need to take in order to qualify for financial aid?
You must be enrolled for 6 credits to be eligible for federal financial aid. Each course is a 3 credit course, with the exception of Field Education which is 4 credits (SW921, SW932/SW942, SW934/SW944) or 5 credits (SW933/SW943).
  4. What courses are offered in the Spring semester?
View the GSSW schedule of courses for spring semester course availability.
  5. What required courses should I be taking?
View MSW Curriculum & Concentrations for Two-year, Three-year and Four-year curriculum plans or reference pages 39-45 of the 2009-2010 GSSW Student Guide. Field of Practice Concentration requirements for the Spring semester are listed on the Schedule of Courses and on page 46 in the 2009-2010 GSSW Student Guide.
  6. If a course is closed, what are my options?
You are strongly advised to have more than one option when you register for classes. There are sufficient seats to meet the demand for required courses, and multiple sections are offered in different time blocks to accommodate a variety of schedules. Waitlist requests for required courses will be considered for extraordinary circumstances, e.g. accommodations for health and disabilities, atypical field placement schedule or a commute of an hour or more. The waitlist request form (PDF updated 10/16/09) is available online.
  7. Can I register for courses from a different concentration?
On a space available basis, advanced practice concentration courses may be elective options for students in other concentrations. Since concentration courses are restricted to students in the concentration, you must submit a waitlist request form (PDF updated 10/16/09). Clearly indicate that the course you are requesting is an elective option for your program of study.
