MSW Curriculum & Concentrations

Through our curriculum and your field-based application of this knowledge, you will gain skills and experience in social work practice, policy, ethics, and research.

In your first year, Foundation Courses will cover content on theories of human behavior, diversity, clinical and macro practice, research, and policy. You will begin your Intervention Method courses in either clinical or macro practice. As a final-year student you will choose a Field of Practice Concentration. Students will also have an opportunity to take three elective courses to further customize your academic experience.

Within either method, you will select a Field of Practice Concentration or you have the option to create an individualized field by combining two or more concentrations. We let you further individualize your program by choosing electives within GSSW, Boston College, or a consortiums formed with 10 other universities.

Everything comes together in your final year of study, when your advanced practice and policy courses and your field placement will be based on your chosen Field of Practice Concentration. Choose from:

Children, Youth, & Families
Global Practice
Health and Mental Health
Older Adults & Families
