Associate Professor of Macro Practice, Children, Youth & Families
Ron Ancrum, is an Associate Professor of Macro Practice. His prior teaching at area colleges has focused on program evaluation, philanthropy, nonprofit management and leadership. He has previously taught at Boston University’s Nonprofit Management Leadership Certificate Program, Bay Path’s Graduate Program, and at McCormack Institute for Public Policy at UMass Boston.
Professor Ancrum comes to the Boston College School of Social Work (BCSSW) in 2016 after working at and with a variety of nonprofit organizations in the region. Most recently, he led the successful development of a ground-breaking early education center, Nurtury Learning Lab, in the heart of Bromley-Heath Housing Development in Jamaica Plain. He was a leader in philanthropy for the New England region, as president of the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts, and as president of Associated Grant Makers from 2001-2009. Professor Ancrum also provided consultant services to over 50 organizations through his work as senior consultant with Third Sector New England and as co-owner of Ancrum & Solomon, Inc.
Professor Ancrum has served on numerous community boards, and advisory committees. He was appointed by Governor Patrick’s Commonwealth Corp Commission in 2007 and appointed by Boston Mayor’s Office to the BPS School Quality Working Group in 2013. He served on the founding boards of Leadership Pioneer Valley and Massachusetts Nonprofit Network. Professor Ancrum also organized Greater Springfield’s City to City tours and the New England Conferences on Black Philanthropy.
Professor Ancrum has a bachelor degree in music theory and composition from the University of Connecticut and a MS degree from the University of Massachusetts McCormack Institute for Public Policy.
