Mass. Health Council Award given to GSSW Adjunct Faculty member

Marylou Sudders, GSSW adjunct faculty member and MSW President and CEO of the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children will receive an award from the Massachusetts Health Council.

GSSW Website Receives UCDA Design Award

We are proud to announce that the new GSSW website has received an Award of Excellence from the University and College Designers Association (UCDA). UCDA exists to promote excellence in visual communications for educational institutions. Electronic Media entries in the UCDA Design Competition were judged for appearance, flexibility, interactivity and suitability for their intended audiences. Creativity in solving the problems of designing for electronic media was primary.

The GSSW website was designed by the GSSW Office of Marketing Communications in collaboration with Boston College Information Technology and an outside consultant.  The site launched in February of 2009.

Institute on Aging addresses impact of increasingly older population

James Lubben, Louise McMahon Ahearn Professor of Social Work and director of the University's new Institute on Aging (IOA) is featured in the latest issue of the Boston College Light the World Campaign Newsletter talking about the implications of an aging society.

Prof. McCoy awarded Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Grant

Boston College Graduate School of Social Work has received a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) to study the negative trajectories of youth with mental health disorders in the juvenile justice system.

Dr. Ruth McRoy Named As New GSSW Endowed Professor

Dr. Ruth McRoy has been named the new GSSW Donahue and DiFelice Endowed Professor. Her work encompasses groundbreaking and innovative research in the areas of child welfare, adoption, and diversity. Dr. McRoy will join the BCGSSW faculty in September 2009.

Rethinking Retirement

Director of Sloan Center on Aging and Work appears on CBS evening news. Marcie Pitt-Catsouphes, GSSW Associate Professor and Director of the Sloan Center on Aging and Work at Boston College appeared recently on the CBS evening news. She commented on the advantage older workers bring to businesses, particularly now: "a sense of maturity and experience can make a difference, particularly when there are unexpected situations."

GSSW student helps reunite Sudanese "lost boy" with brother

GSSW student, Deng Nyuon, who was reunited with his Sudanese family members three years ago, was instrumental in helping his friend Kuol Acuek, a refugee from Sudan, find his brother.

BC GSSW Launches New Technical Assistance Center

The Boston College Graduate School of Social Work today launched a new technical assistance center that offers states the tools they need to implement a wide variety of participant-directed long-term care programs. The National Resource Center for Participant-Directed Services is the only national center of its kind and is available to assist states and other entities that want to offer, or already offer, participant-directed services to people with disabilities.
