Commencement 2009

The 133rd Commencement of Boston College was held on Monday, May 18, 2009.

GSSW graduates and their guests attended the Diploma Ceremony held on Burns Lawn at noon. Vice Provost for Faculties, Patricia DeLeeuw gave the Invocation followed by Greetings given by student representative André Lira Gordenstein, Anita Riley, President of the GSSW Alumni Board and Tiziana Dearing, President, Catholic Charities of Boston. Student awards and diplomas were presented and the ceremony concluded with a Benediction by student Yanli Liu.

MSW graduate, André Gordenstein, in his remarks, challenged his classmates "To contribute their skills to a world where people everyday continue to face seemingly insurmountable barriers...We live in a world where many people are struggling and could use the support of someone like you."

Three PhD's and 181 MSW degrees were awarded to the graduates of the GSSW Class of 2009.
