About The Program
phd in theology and education

The doctoral program at IREPM provides an intimate community of faculty mentors and fellow students open to both formal and informal avenues for discussion, questioning and mutual support. Faculty are accessible, supportive and collegial, doctoral students come to know each other and each other's work well and the doctoral seminars and lunches provide regular, intellectually challenging and personally engaging ways to come together as an academic community. The structured nature of the program, and its emphasis on engaging immediately with research questions arising out of ministerial practice, means that it is easy to retain the impetus to move forward and to complete the degree in a timely manner. Connections with a wide variety of theologians through the BTI provide a breadth of resources that complements the small and personal scale of the IREPM setting, and the required academic interaction with the Lynch School of Education means that students have access to some of the finest research and teaching in the field of education - something that can result in unique and creative scholarship. For a motivated, self-starting student who is eager and willing to make connections and forge fruitful, interdisciplinary, collegial relationships, there is no better setting for doctoral work!
