Networking

At least 80% of all opportunities are found through networking.  Additionally, when we surveyed our seniors who found jobs through OCR, 86% of them indicated that networking with alumni at those organizations was crucial to their success in securing the interviews and preparing well enough to succeed.  There are thousands of BC alumni out there who would love to help you by providing information, contacts, introductions, interview and resume advice, and mentor you with your job search.  All you have to do is ask.  The worst case scenario is they ignore you or say “no”.   Can you live with that?  I bet you can.  You can no say that you have conducted a thorough and effective job or internship search until you have exhausted your networking options.   The main ways of connecting with alumni is through

LinkedIn, a social networking sight for professionals. You need to have a strong profile on Linked In.  See this link for tips.  This is also  the most effective and updated way to find alumni.  See this handout for instructions on finding BC Alumni.
