TAKEAWAY: AVIATION TAXES
When you start to hear things like the [Federal Aviation Administration] not being funded for a twenty-second time—did you see this recently?—it was just like the debt ceiling debate. My gosh, how can you run a business for the twenty-second time with interim funding? How can you run your business not knowing if you have the funding for your programs, long term?
Jeff Goodell, Washington Governmental Affairs, Jeff yesterday you were down there, and now we’re talking about new taxes. A $300 ticket is laden with $61 worth of taxes, by the way. We are taxed more than cigarettes, we’re taxed more than alcohol. So welcome to the next great sin out there, it’s called aviation. And now there’s another $100 that’s being asked per departure, or tripling of the 9/11 security surcharge.
