Building a Better Banking System
for America

President and Chief Executive Officer Ed Clark of Toronto-based TD Bank Group spoke at the Chief Executives’ Club of Boston on April 26. He praised the United States for encouraging banks to meet stronger capital requirements while advising regulators against creating overly complicated rules, and discussed the bank’s investment in the U.S. and the Boston area. Wyc Grousbeck, managing partner and governor of the Boston Celtics, introduced Clark.

“The best [economic recovery] we can hope for is a consistent, steady recovery, accompanied by paced, structural reforms to deal with our fundamental, underlying structural issues.”

“Regulators overreached in trying to write regulations to implement [the] Volcker [rule]. The spirit of what Volcker is saying is right. Banks should not be hedge funds.” TRANSCRIPT AND VIDEO »

“TD has huge faith in America. That’s why we’ve invested so heavily here. We promise you, we are going to keep investing in America.”

“If you can find me 10 more sites in Boston, we’ll [open] 10 more stores in Boston next year. It’s just how fast we can find sites to grow those stores.”
