2004 Diane Weiss Consulting Project Winner

Texas Instruments, Inc. Team Wins 24rd Annual Diane Weiss Competition

The signature event of the Boston College MBA Program, the Diane Weiss Consulting Competition, is the culmination of semester-long consulting projects which pair teams of first-year MBA students with local businesses and nonprofit organizations. This year projects included graduate students who developed a blueprint to help turn a group of privatized schools to operate independently as businesses; a plan to improve patient in-take processes for a local cancer hospital; and proposals for uses of a joint land purchase between an area college and public company, among others. The winning team spent the semester helping Texas Instruments identify new markets for existing technology. Along the way, they developed a rigorous quantitative methodology that will enable the company to systematically prioritize potential market segments.

The top three teams present their work again the following night during the final prize competition, The Diane Weiss Competition, which is open to the public. The judging is done by a panel of six distinguished visiting judges, who have had no prior contact with the teams or their clients. After the three presentations and the accompanying question and answer periods, the judges rank the presentations, offer feedback to each of the groups, and award the winning team with a cash prize.
