Application Requirements
It is the responsibility of each applicant to submit a complete application on-line for review by the Admissions Committee. Please do not send paper-based materials. If your application is complete on the deadline date, you will receive a response by the date specified in the application deadlines section. Applicants will be notified via e-mail when their application status has been updated within the online application system.
A completed application includes:
1) Completed and Signed Application Form
2) Current Resume
Please prepare a business resume that includes your educational and professional information. Professional information should consist of
employment history in reverse chronological order with titles, dates, relevant information and an indication of part-time or full-time status.
3) Employment History
Please provide your Employment History separately from your resume. The Employment History should follow the following format:
Name of Employer | Dates of Employment | Title | Starting Salary/Ending | Reason for Leaving
Please provide information regarding any gaps in employment and clearly indicate if you are still working at your most recent employer. If you are no longer employed, please indicate that on your employment history document.
If you are a current student and therefore do not have any postgraduate work experience, you still must submit a work history document. Please write N/A for each of the categories.
4) Essays
Two personal essays are required. Essays should be typed on separate sheets and numbered. A third essay is optional and you may use it to present any additional information you would like the Committee to consider.
Essay Questions:
1. Define long term success in your specific area of interest. How have your previous experiences prepared you for this professional career? What areas of specialization within the Carroll School of Management do you believe will be most valuable in achieving your goals? What specific short-term career objectives have you set to assist you in achieving your long-term career plans?
(2 pages)
2. Why have you selected the MBA or MSF program in the Carroll School of Management at Boston College? (1 page)
5) Two Recommendations
The Admissions Committee requires evaluations from individuals who can provide an objective and frank appraisal of your capacity for intensive graduate study and your potential for professional success. Recommendation forms must be completed online. After providing your recommender's contact information, click "send notification to recommender." Your recommender will receive an e-mail with a secure link and password to complete the recommendation online. Once your recommender completes the online form, you will receive a verification e-mail.
We do not accept faxed, mailed, or emailed recommendations.
6) Transcripts
Transcripts must be submitted online. Applicants may either upload a self-reported transcript or scan a copy of each official transcript for every college or university in which you were enrolled in a degree granting program.
If you are a current student please include your current classes even if you have not received your final grades. International students must submit an official English translation of academic credentials for evaluation.
If admitted, you will be required to submit an official paper transcript from each institution you have listed. Official documents must bear the actual signature of the registrar and the official seal or stamp of the institution.
All applicants who completed their undergraduate course work outside of the United States must have the equivalent of an American bachelor's degree. If you are uncertain about your educational equivalency with the US Bachelors Degree, we recommend that you have your transcript evaluated by a credential evaluation organization such as World Education Services (www.wes.org).
Boston College reserves the right to withdraw any offer of admission already made if there is any discrepancy between the self-reported transcript and the official transcript.
7) GMAT
MSF applicants are required to take the GMAT. Please self report test scores on the application form and arrange for official reports to be sent directly to Boston College. The admissions committee will consider the highest total score. Only GMAT scores from within the last 5 years are valid. The MSF GMAT school code is 44X-J5-88.
If you have not taken the GMAT, please indicate the date you intend on taking the exam. On your test day, please fax the unofficial score report to the Office of Admissions (fax: 617-552-8078) and arrange for an official report to be sent to Boston College.
If you choose to re-take the GMAT after your application has been submitted, you must request that the Admissions Committee hold your application. Your file will not be reviewed until your new score has been reported.
8) TOEFL Scores (if applicable)
All students whose first language is not English are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). The minimum required score on the TOEFL is 600 on the paper-based test, 250 on the computer-based test, or 100 on the internet-based test.
Please self report the score on the application form and arrange for official reports to be sent directly from ETS. The school code for reporting procedures is MSF 3033. You may use either department code 02 or 99 with the corresponding school code when reporting test scores.
If you have not taken the TOEFL, please indicate the date you intend to take the exam. On your test day, please fax the unofficial score report to the Office of Admissions (fax: 617-552-8078) and arrange for an official report to be sent directly from ETS.
The TOEFL requirement is waived for applicants who have completed a four-year Bachelor's degree course of study or a two-year Master's degree at an accredited institution where the medium language of instruction is English. This must be indicated on the transcript or verified by your school in an official letter. The requirement is also waived for applicants with two or more years of work experience in the United States.
9) $100.00 nonrefundable application fee (U.S. check required)
A nonrefundable application fee of $100 U.S. dollars is payable electronically by credit card or check when you apply online. If you wish to pay by means other than electronically, you may submit a check or money order payable to Boston College.
