Admissions Waiting List

Information on Waiting List for Graduate Management Admissions

Being placed on the waiting list invariably sparks numerous questions from applicants. In fact, it may be one of the more anxiety-producing aspects of the admission process because of the uncertainty of what it represents. Perhaps this is due to the ambiguous nature of the waiting list and all that it entails.

At the Boston College Carroll Graduate School of Management, notification of wait listed admission is an indication that our Admissions Committee has identified many positive aspects of a candidate's profile and that they are still viable candidates who we feel might be a wonderful match for the institution. The fact that we were unable to admit them is reflective of how selective our process has become over the past several years.

Over the years, we have counseled anxious applicants with regard to the nuances of the waiting list process at Boston College. Here are some things to keep in mind during the waiting list period:

  • The admission of wait listed candidates will begin upon receipt of the first round of admission responses and occurs throughout the summer should space in the program become available.
  • Candidates are not encouraged to send email inquiries or make frequent calls to the institution to check on their waiting list status.
  • Wait-listed candidates are encouraged to benchmark themselves against our Class Profile to identify areas for improvement. If you find yourself below average in the criteria evaluated for admission, the following are steps you can take to strengthen your candidacy in that area:

    1. GPA/Academic Coursework - If you find yourself with a GPA not reflective of your academic abilities, you may be able to provide supplementary information to the admissions committee. Perhaps you have enrolled in business-related classes at a local university or community college. Please send the transcripts to the Boston College Graduate Management Admissions at address listed below.

    2. GMAT - The Graduate Management Admissions Council offers frequent test dates. If your current score is below our average, we recommend that you take the test again. The Admissions Committee takes into consideration your highest test score. Please request that an official score report be sent to the Boston College MBA Program (school code: 3083).

    3. RECOMMENDATIONS - If you feel that an additional professional recommendation will add value to what you have already provided, you may request that your recommender send an additional recommendation to the Boston College Graduate Management Admissions at address listed below.

While there are no guarantees, your commitment to strengthening your application in these ways will be positively perceived by the Admissions Committee.
