Darlene Ratliff | Principal, Higginson-Lewis K-8 School
Darlene Ratliff is in her second year as principal at the Higginson-Lewis K-8 in Roxbury, Massachusetts. She is endeavoring to build capacity through teacher leadership opportunities and re-defining teaching and learning expectations for all children. She has been with the Boston Public Schools for 26 years, having worked 14 of those years at the Horace Mann School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Most recently, Ms. Ratliff completed the Aspiring Principal’s Program Cohort (2013 – 2014) for Boston Public Schools. She has served as Achievement Network Assessment and Data Coordinator, Math Specialist, Instructional Math Coach, Special Education Teacher and Part-Time New Teacher Developer. Functioning in such various roles allowed her to mentor new teachers and facilitate professional development for the purpose of improving instructional practices using data. Darlene obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the College of Wooster and a Master of Education degree from Boston University. In addition, Ms. Ratliff is a nationally certified American Sign Language interpreter through the Rural Interpreter Training Program at Northeastern University.
