Claire Rheaume | Aspiring Principal Resident, Eliot K-8 School
Claire Rheaume graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in 2009 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. Following her graduation, she began teaching in Boston Public Schools as a Teach for America Corps Member. She taught both 6th grade and 2nd grade at the Higginson Lewis K-8 in Roxbury, and served as a member of the Instructional Leadership Team. Claire completed a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Teaching from Boston University in 2011. That same year, she transitioned to a new role teaching 4th grade at the Umana Academy in East Boston. In addition to her regular teaching duties at the Umana Academy, Claire took on many leadership roles, serving as Lead Teacher, T3 Teacher Leader, and 4-8 ELA Team Leader. During her time at the Umana Academy, Claire worked closely with the leadership team as a Teacher Leader and Principal Intern in order to improve the quality of instruction across the school. Her responsibilities include co-planning and leading professional development meetings and biweekly ELA content team meetings for the faculty. She also coordinated new teacher development at the Umana Academy, which entailed recruiting and hiring new teachers, as well as implementing a school-based induction program for new teachers. Claire obtained a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Educational Administration from the University of Massachusetts, Boston, in May 2015.
