Ryan Holmes | Principal, Match Middle School
Interestingly, Ryan Holmes has never lived outside the state of Massachusetts. He grew up on the north shore in a small town called West Newbury, which is about 50 minutes north of Boston and 10 minutes south of the New Hampshire border. He graduated from U-Mass, Amherst in 2005. After he graduated, he worked as a Match Corps tutor at Match High School. It was there where Ryan was first exposed to how challenging, how important, and how much fun working in education could be. He then began doing some community organizing on behalf of charter schools (letter writing campaigns, organizing meetings with state representatives and state senators). After two years, he had a desire to work with students again and began teaching 7th grade math at Excel Academy Charter School. Ryan worked there for 5 years and learned a tremendous amount about teaching and student culture. For the past 2 years, he has been helping start a “blended learning” school for the Match Network called "Match Next". He is currently the principal at Match Middle School in Jamaica Plain.
