Natalie Ake | Principal, Ellison/Parks Early Education School
Natalie Ake is the principal of the Dr. Catherine Ellison Rosa Parks Early Education School in Mattapan. She has been principal at the Ellison Parks since 2013 and is committed to expanding high quality inclusive opportunities for all students and their families. Natalie previously worked as an administrator in the Office of Special Education and Student Services where she provided support to schools and families on improving the educational experiences for students with special needs. She spent the first 10 years of her career in the Boston Public Schools as an English Language Arts and Math teacher at the Edison K8 School and during that time taught in special education and inclusion classes while supporting her school community as a teacher leader. Natalie also served as the Special Education Student Support Coordinator and co-chair of the Student Support Team at the Edison. She has mentored new teachers as a New Teacher Developer and facilitated Collaborative Coaching and Learning cycles to support adult learning and student achievement. As an instructor at Simmons College, Natalie taught graduate level course including Inclusion, Consultation, and Collaboration and Special Education Seminars. Each course was designed to support graduates in synthesizing theory and practice in their first years of teaching. Natalie received her Bachelor’s degree from Boston University and her Master’s of Science in Special Education from Simmons College. She is also the proud parent of two Boston Public School students.
