Mistie Parsons | Head of School, Phoenix Charter Academy
Mistie Parsons is passionate about education, particularly its use as a tool to break the current cycle of poverty. Currently, she serves as the Head of School at Phoenix Charter Academy in Chelsea, where the mission is to create an environment where students that have been counted out of mainstream education can, and do, find secondary and post-secondary success. She initially joined the Phoenix team as the Program Manager of their AmeriCorps fellowship program, which involved training and supervising 17 full time tutors and mentors, as well as developing a system of using data to track and encourage academic achievement. She also served as Assistant Principal, overseeing instruction and implementing a Data Driven Instruction model.
Before becoming an integral member of the Phoenix family, Mistie taught math and provided academic advising to first generation students though Trio programs at Polk State College in Winter Haven, Florida. A believer in everyone’s capacity to grow, Mistie leads by seeing what others have the potential to be and helps them develop the tools to get there.
There are many areas where Mistie can see herself growing with the teachings of the Lynch Leadership Academy. She hopes to better understand how to push academic rigor and classroom engagement in order for more students to obtain their diplomas and be successful in college. She herself studied at Northeastern University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Human Services with a minor in Spanish. She then earned her Master of Arts in Teaching from Florida Southern College.
