What company did you intern with?
Child Care, Inc.

Where were you located?
New York City

What was your position?
Special Events Intern

What were your basic responsibilities?
Organizing all aspects of an award ceremony luncheon; included writing budget proposals, calling state representatives, designing invitation, etc.

How many hours did you work per week?
25 hours

Describe a typical day of work.
Started the day by returning messages and emails received the previous night. Often called state representatives to inform them of the event. Edited letters and proposals sent to state offices.

What did you like best about your internship?
I had a lot of responsibility. The letters that I wrote were being sent to government offices and being submitted in order to gain money for the organization. A lot of interns in other positions don't hold such an important role.

What did you like least about your internship?
A lot of time I had to work on my own. The actual work part of my job did not involve much interaction with other employees.

What did you think of the company as a whole?
I liked working with a nonprofit. It was a different experience than with a corporation.

Can you offer any tips for interviewing with this particular company?
Show that you are passionate about working for a nonprofit firm.

Considering your experience, would you recommend this internship to other students?
Child Care Inc. is only one of many nonprofit firms in New York City. If this is the type of job you are looking for, go for it. If you are not interested in Child Care issues, look for a nonprofit internship in an area more interesting to you.
