Outbound Transportation Intern

What were your basic responsibilities?
3 main projects: optimization of delivery routes from Newark, DE distribution center (traveled there for a week), benchmark of trucking rates, redesign and automate fuel surcharge and bid package plus helped out w/ Excel questions and small projects

How many hours did you work per week?
40 hours

Describe a typical day of work.
Prioritized project list and worked on them as I saw fit. Set up meetings or just asked a quick question if any of the projects was stalling. Some downtime, but that lessened as they got more comfortable with me and gave more responsibility.

What did you like best about your internship?
Being the lead on a few projects and seeing them implemented. Access to upper management including a final presentation in front of CEO and COO. Living with other interns and experiencing the area.

What did you like least about your internship?
Too much downtime, which lessened, but never totally went away.

What did you think of the company as a whole?
Amazing company that is the industry leader and very socially responsible. The people there love the company (average tenure company–wide is 18 years) and are great people.

Can you offer any tips for interviewing with this particular company?
You don't need to know anything about windows, but just have to work for a great company and be open to trying out Minnesota, I was pleasantly surprised.

Considering your experience, would you recommend this internship to other students?
Without hesitation.
