Academics

Honors Program students excel in the classroom taking honors-specific courses such as Western Cultural Traditions, honors sections of the Carroll School of Management core, and several other courses in the College of Arts & Sciences. Each Carroll School honors section is relatively smaller than their non-honors counterparts and taught by an experienced full-time faculty member. Many of the professors are internationally recognized scholars with mastery in their respective field. Each of the honors courses develops critical thinking skills and courses emphasize case analyses and group projects in addition to lecture to enrich the learning experience. Each professor comes from a diverse background of experiences, with a wealth of knowledge and scholarship skills relevant to their field of study, resulting in a dynamic learning environment. Most importantly, these professors are readily accessible to the students outside the classroom for extra help and mentoring. Every year, Honors Program students frequently remark about the opportunities that are available to them outside of the classroom because of relationships they formed with faculty from their honors sections. An Honors Program student's study at Boston College culminates in the research and writing of a Senior Honors Thesis under the tutelage of a faculty member in their senior year. The student chooses a faculty member who can offer technical and expert advice on the topic. Students are granted the freedom to select topics that interest them and are encouraged to spend ample amounts of time in the research and writing of the thesis.
