It is the responsibility of each applicant to submit a complete online application. Your application must be complete by the January 5, 2012 deadline. Applicants will be notified by e-mail when their application has been updated.

2) Current Curriculum Vitae

Please prepare a curriculum vitae that includes your educational, research and professional information. Professional information should consist of
employment history in reverse chronological order with titles, dates, relevant information and an indication of part-time or full-time status.

3) Employment History

Please provide your Employment History separately from your resume using the form provided within the online application. Include all full-time positions that you have held since your undergraduate graduation in reverse chronological order, starting with your current position. Do not include any part-time or internship experience in this form.

If you are a current student and therefore do not have any postgraduate work experience, you are only required to enter "N/A" as your current position.

4) Essays

One personal essay is required:

Essay 1: Please discuss your research interests and career objectives. Be as specific as you can about the area in which you plan to study and your reasons for wishing to study at Boston College. Include any research work, publications, or fellowships and awards that are part of your academic record and experience. (2-3 pages)

Optional Essay: Please introduce yourself to the BC community. Feel free to be creative in expressing your message.

5) Two Recommendations

The Admissions Committee requires evaluations from individuals who can provide an objective and frank appraisal of your capacity for intensive graduate study and your potential for professional success. Recommendation forms must be completed online.  After providing your recommender's contact information, click "send notification to recommender." Your recommender will receive an e-mail with a secure link and password to complete the recommendation online. Once your recommender completes the online form, you will receive a verification e-mail. 

We do not accept faxed, mailed, or emailed recommendations.

6) Transcripts

Transcripts must be submitted online.  Applicants may either upload a self-reported transcript or scan a copy of each official transcript for every college or university in which you were enrolled in a degree granting program. 

If you are a current student please include your current classes even if you have not received your final grades. International students must submit an official English translation of academic credentials for evaluation.

If admitted, you will be required to submit an official paper transcript from each institution you have listed. Official documents must bear the actual signature of the registrar and the official seal or stamp of the institution. 

All applicants who completed their undergraduate course work outside of the United States must have the equivalent of a US bachelor's degreeIf you are uncertain about your educational equivalency with the US bachelor's degree, we recommend that you have your transcript evaluated by a credential evaluation organization such as World Education Services (www.wes.org). 

Boston College reserves the right to withdraw any offer of admission already made if there is any discrepancy between the self-reported transcript and the official transcript.

7) GMAT or GRE

PhD applicants are required to take either the GMAT or GRE. The admissions committee will consider the highest total score. Only scores from within the last 5 years are valid.

At the time of application submission, only self-reported test scores are required. Please input your total and section scores where indicated on the application form.

Upon admission, all official test scores must be submitted to the Office of Graduate Management Admissions. Boston College reserves the right to withdraw any offer of admission if there is any discrepancy between the self-reported and official score report. The PhD Finance GMAT school code is 44X-J5-44. The GRE school code is 3033.

8) TOEFL or PTE (if applicable)

All students whose first language is not English are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the Pearson Test of English (PTE). We do not accept the IELTS. The minimum required score on the TOEFL is 600 on the paper-based test, 250 on the computer-based test, or 100 on the internet-based test. The minimum required overall score on the PTE is 68.

At the time of application submission, only self-reported test scores are required. Please input your total and section scores where indicated on the application form.

Upon admission, all official test scores must be submitted to the Office of Graduate Management Admissions. Boston College reserves the right to withdraw any offer of admission already made if there is any discrepancy between the self-reported and official score report. Candidates may use school code 3033 to report their official TOEFL score. Candidates may use school code KG5-8T-78 to report their official PTE score.

The language requirement is waived for applicants who have completed a four-year Bachelor's degree course of study or a two-year Master's degree at an accredited institution where the medium language of instruction is English. This must be indicated on the transcript or verified by your school in an official letter. In order to be eligible for the waiver, the student must have completed their entire degree at the English-speaking institution. Any student who completed any part of their degree at an institution where the medium language of instruction is not English will not be considered exempt from the language application requirement. The requirement is also waived for applicants with two or more years of work experience in the United States.

9) $100.00 nonrefundable application fee

A nonrefundable application fee of $100 U.S. dollars is payable electronically by credit card when you apply online.
