Anthony Parisi, MBA '14, spent eight years preparing for the challenges of starting an MBA program. He developed his leadership, collaboration and critical thinking skills serving in the United States Army.

Originally from Long Island, NY, Anthony attended the State University of New York at Albany, on a 4-year ROTC scholarship. Upon graduation in 2004, he began his military service commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Aviation branch.

After being trained to operate the CH-47D Chinook in flight school in Fort Rucker, AL, Anthony was stationed at Fort Drum, NY. He served as a Platoon Leader for the 10th Mountain Division on deployment to Bagram, Afghanistan, and was promoted to Captain prior to a second deployment in Tikrit, Iraq. His active duty concluded stateside in 2012, as Brigade staff and Rear Detachment Commander for TF 1-10 Attack during their deployment to Khowst, Afghanistan.

Anthony enrolled in the Carroll School of Management in the Fall of 2012. He chose Boston College because he wanted to attend a top tier MBA program with a small class size to guarantee quality access to faculty and staff.

Thanks to intense exposure to steep learning curves, small and large groups of diverse individuals, and critical decision-making in ambiguous situations, Anthony felt prepared to begin his MBA program. “All the skills I acquired were applied on day 1 at BC when dealing with unfamiliar class topics, multiple team assignments, and case studies where decisions and recommendations needed to be made with less than perfect information.

"Moreover, in my internship experience, my organizational ability, professionalism, and attention to detail gained in the Army have helped to place me ahead of my peers.” This summer, Anthony interned as Manager of Partner Relations for EnergySage, a start-up located in Cambridge, MA. He plans to pursue a career in the renewable energy industry upon completion of his program in May.

A year into the program, Anthony is pleased with his new community. “One of the highlights of my Carroll School experience so far has been the caliber of the students. All the students I have met and worked with have been friendly, helpful, intelligent, and each with their own unique set of experiences.”

The experiences that shaped Anthony's military career undoubtedly prepared him for success in the MBA classroom and beyond. Anthony is one of nine veterans currenlty pursuing an MBA at Boston College. Each bring valuable perspective to the classroom, team projects, and Carroll School community.
