A field-study course, Boston College’s TechTrek features week-long visits to Silicon Valley, Seattle, and New York City, where graduate students tour some of the nation’s hottest tech firms and participate in alumni-fueled master classes with venture capitalists (founding partners), CEOs, and entrepreneurs.
TechTrek coursework and site visits focus on management rather than “techie” issues. Among the companies visited in recent years are Amazon, Apple, Cisco, eBay, Facebook, Google, Intel, Intuit, Microsoft, Nintendo, Starbucks, Sun, Twitter, Wells Fargo, and Yahoo!.
A three-credit course, TechTrek typically takes place during the first two weeks of January. Pre-trip coursework includes four meetings (two extended weekend sessions, plus two one-hour weekday sessions) during the fall semester. Enrollment, which is open to Full-Time and Part-Time MBA students, is limited.
