Eben Hutchison, MSA '12, matriculated to the Boston College Carroll School of Management after graduating from the University of Rhode Island, where he majored in accounting. He was looking for a graduate program that would help him obtain the CPA designation and act as a catalyst for his career in public accounting.
"I applied to a few schools with AACSB accreditation that were reasonably commutable from Providence, RI. Boston College provided the best value. The campus is beautiful, I heard great things about the faculty, and the BC brand and alumni network is well known."
Not only did Eben earn his CPA in 2012, he was awarded second honors for earning one of the top two scores on the exam in Massachusetts. In addition to helping him prepare for the CPA exams, Eben credits the MSA program at Boston College for helping him to improve his teamwork, writing, speaking and analytic skills.
"I was really impressed with the quality of the students I studied with. There was a lot of group work in many of the courses, and my previous experience with group work at other educational institutions had been spotty, but I could really rely on my classmates at BC."
Eben still resides in Providence, and currently works for Grant Thornton, LLP, in their New England cluster of offices. Eventually, Eben would like to manage his own business, either in public accounting or another field.
