Faculty Research Spotlight
Government, industry, and academic leaders are increasingly recognizing the central role that information systems will play in promoting higher quality and productivity within the $2-trillion U.S. healthcare system. Boston is a world center of excellence in healthcare and the home for many of the most influential industry leaders--making it a natural locale for healthcare IS research.
Researchers in the Information Systems Department at Boston College are initiating an exciting program of research to examine the adoption and impacts of advanced information systems in healthcare, particularly the digitization of medical records and computer support for ongoing patient care. Partnering with leading Boston-area healthcare providers and leading local and national universities, we are helping organizations understand how to use information systems to provide more effective and more affordable patient care.
Of particular interest are how individuals and groups can move more rapidly from nominal adoption to deeper assimilation of IS. As we continue to cultivate lasting partnerships with organizations committed to healthcare IS, this should lead to many promising research and career opportunities for BC students in Information Systems.
Associate Professor John Gallaugher has been recognized for his excellence in teaching by BusinessWeek.
