Carroll School of Management

Charles Benedict '67, MBA '70

Charles Benedict’s view on giving back to the Carroll of Management is simple: “It will be done, and we need to get on with it!” As Charles pursued his MBA degree at Boston College, he worked full time in hospital administration and took classes in the evenings. Looking back, Charlie (as his classmates still call him) says that the value of the MBA degree was twofold. “When I graduated, the trend in the healthcare industry was to obtain a masters degree in hospital administration. I chose to go the business degree route, and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. The MBA degree assisted me in achieving both COO and CEO positions within the healthcare industry. Our professors were practitioners in their respective fields, and I benefited from the real-world experiences that my classmates brought to the table every evening.”

For over 36 years, Charlie’s career focus has been healthcare administration, including ten years in long-term care. He supports the view of “never letting your studies interfere with your education.” Charlie believes that the Carroll School experience is enhanced by the multiple opportunities offered outside the classroom and that these experiences truly add value to the degree.

Charlie has a sincere interest in seeing the BC graduate program excel. “The return on our investment is our continued pride in the various programs and the lasting networks that will serve us all both personally and professionally throughout our lives.”
