Crisis counselor

Edward J. Kane is the media’s go-to man this fall. Barron's, Bloomberg, the Philadelphia Inquirer, and the Boston Globe have contacted the James F. Cleary Chair in Finance and expert on financial crisis management for his take on aspects of the economic crisis, among other topics. He also participated in an event sponsored by the Boston College Wall Street Council titled “Getting Worse or Getting Better? Market Perspectives in a Post-Election Environment.”

Held in New York City on November 12, the program featured Kane alongside financial services leaders T.J. Maloney ’75, president of Lincolnshire Management; David P. O’Connor ’86, senior managing partner of High Rise Capital Management; and Michael F. Holland, Chairman of Holland & Company, LLC. John V. Murphy ’71, chairman and CEO of OppenheimerFunds, Inc., moderated the discussion.

Kane, who earlier this year was named the Midwest Finance Association's 2008 Distinguished Scholar, has taught at Boston College for 16 years. Previously, he held the Everett D. Reese Chair of Banking and Monetary Economics at Ohio State University for 20 years. A founding member of the Shadow Financial Regulatory Committee, Kane rejoined the organization in 2005. He currently consults for the World Bank, is a senior fellow in the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation’s Center for Financial Research, and serves on eight editorial boards.
