Marriage has been good to Anupam Mittal MBA '97.–the Indian matchmaking website he founded in 1997 to tap into the country's massive marriage market–now boasts more than nine million registered users from New Delhi to New York and is estimated to have more than a 50 percent market share of the Indian matchmaking industry.

Mittal–still single himself–has also built more than 130 walk-in store versions of his online business in India, where those looking for a match can meet with a representative face-to-face. Called Shaadi Point (shaadi means "marriage" in Hindi), these spots appeal to parents, who are the most common decision makers in the arranged marriage market, but often lack the technological savvy to navigate the online world of potential mates.

In addition to his marriage business, Mittal's ventures include (a mobile entertainment site) and (a daily horoscope destination), as well as film and television development and event management companies. All of his businesses are collected under an umbrella company called The People Group, which employs more than 400 worldwide and is headquartered in Mumbai, with offices in the U.A.E., the U.K., and the U.S.

Mittal also produced and starred in the 2003 film Flavors, which the New York Times called "bright, good-spirited and blissfully short for Bollywood." Mittal plays a Westernized young Indian, with traditional parents, who is engaged to a tall blonde American woman.
