The Women's Studies Program at Boston College offers an interdisciplinary minor to undergraduates and places emphasis on the study of women's past and present position in society, analyzing the differences among women as a result of such factors as race, class, religion, and sexuality. The concept of gender relations is also an important emphasis. The range of issues that intersect with gender such as nationalism and post colonialism, health, labor, sexuality, race, family work and welfare are additional aspects that are studied.
Boston College does not offer graduate degrees in women's studies. However, Boston College is a member of the Graduate Consortium in Women's Studies at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study. Other member institution are Brandeis, Harvard, MIT, Northeastern and Tufts. The GCWS does not offer graduate degrees in women's studies either, but it offers innovative team-taught interdisciplinary courses at the graduate level. Graduate students at Boston College or member institutions are eligible to take GCWS courses. The GCWS also offers the Amy Segal Dissertation Fellowship.
