Summer Training and Internships

The Council of Majors has compiled detailed descriptions of many of the internship and training programs in which BC students have participated. This booklet is available in the RTAC office for those who are looking for ideas and recommendations.

Here is a list of some of the more popular acting schools that offer short-term training, followed by information on opportunities in technical theater and production.

Acting

British American Drama Academy (BADA) - Oxford, England - BADA runs for four weeks during July and focuses on Classical Acting especially Shakespeare.

CAP 21 - New York City - This six week program focuses on musical theatre performance and runs from late June through early August.

Circle in the Square - New York City - This seven-week program, scheduled through July and August, offers an intensive, professionally oriented curriculum of acting classes. Programs are available in both Acting and Musical Theatre.

Neighborhood Playhouse School of Theatre - New York City - This program runs for 6 weeks from mid June through the end of July, focusing primarily on the Meisner Technique.

New Actor's Workshop - New York City - Two three week sessions are offered over the course of the summer in acting.

Shakespeare & Company - Lenox, MA - Performance internships and training programs are both offered. 

Stella Adler Studio of Acting - New York City - The Stella Adler Studio offers programs in acting, Shakespeare, Chekhov, and physical theatre.

Strasberg Institute - New York City - The Strasberg Institute offers a six week intensive program designed to introduce Lee Strasberg’s Method to actors.

William Esper Studio - William Esper’s studio runs a 6 week intensive acting program from mid June through the end of July.

Technical Theater

Various internships are available and theatres across the country. Each year Stage Source hosts a job expo for those interested in design, production, consulting, management, marketing and administration. The REPAEXPO takes place in February each year. BC students have had remarkable success in the past by simply contacting professional theatres in their hometowns to request information on internships.
